It takes me like 2 minutes to get to 130 MPH from 120!

I can only use my tachmeter..I think 120 is 3k..every line is 10 MPH right? IF this is true than I shift out of 4th at like 118 MPH and it then takes me FOREVER to move the tachometer. I thought my car was suposed to do 140-150 STOCK!?? IT would take me about 9 miles of road to get to 136!! Is something wrong? Or am I going faster than I think..

The formula for MPH from rpm is as follows:

(RPM * tire radius)/(final drive ratio * 168)

At high speeds (>>100mph) add a tenth or two to your radius to account for tire growth.)

I think your problem is you are shifting WAY too early. My 85 Z w/3.08s 130 was ~5k, so you shouldn't even be thinking of shifting till at least near that. Perhaps your tach is off and you're just bogging the hell out of it in 5th. It's entirely possible that your car cannot push 5th gear and your top speed is gonna be in 4th. 140 is ~5500, 155 is ~ 6000. Yeah TPI isn't known for pulling way past 5k, but 3.08s and OD aren't a good top end combo for a low output car.

Top of 4th is 130?????????? WHAT??? I get to top of 4th in no time..My tach is at 3k in 5th when I shift out of 4th at 5k. Does that make sense? My speedo only goes to 115. The way my tach seems to work is that in 5th, every little line is 10 mph. At 80mph it's like 2k, 90 is 2250, 100 is 2500, 110 is 2750, 120 is 3000. This could be wrong..but that seemed to be right..My speedo goes insane past 8- MPH..I cant rely on it..Thats why I use my tach

What's wrong is you're an idiot to drive like that on public roads. Since I travel to the Orlando area on business frequently, please let me know when you're on the road so I can have emergency personnel on alert - I've got a wife and three kids to support.

Keep it on the track, fool.

Yea yea yea..It's everyday that a kid in a camaro kills everyone burrying the needle. I assure you, you are much safer on the road with me than with a girl in a Civic on a cell phone or the latter of this area's popualtion. I moved down here to find that there are apparently no traffic laws, no car laws and that red lights mean floor it if it's only been a second. I was out past Speedworld and I wanted to see what my car would do seeing that I am from a state with NO flat roads. I didn't think a mile of visibilty and many miles of straight road was a bad spot. Thats only like the 2nd time I've ever gone over 110. I guess I should save going 140 for the 1/4 mile where I reach that speed in a mere 130.53 seconds. I hope that someday when I am a moderator it's ok for me to do it like it is for Ed. Reguardless, thanks for the replys

Like i said, i think your engine just can't push OD effectively. If you want to really see your top speed your gearing has to be right for it. As such OD psuhing 3.08s isn't a good combo unless you are making prolly near 400lb ft.
And five7, lighten up, if he's out top ending on an open highway thats his business, how is he gonna hurt anybody except himself and his driving record. Now if he's cutting through traffic and esp. if he's not on a good visiblity restricted access freeway then yeah, it is completely dumb and should have his keys taken away. I'd rather see a well maintained thirdgen w/ good ruber go flying by at 140 then some cell phone gabbing SUV anyday. At least at 140 he's past you before you knew he was there. That SUV is rolling next to you and could push you into the divider without warning at any time if the driver stops paying attention to what lane he's in. I've had this happen to me more than i could count, and most of the time if i wasn't driving a thirdgen (or at least a car with nice rubber all around) i would have been killed cuz i wouldn't have been able to get out of there without loosing control.
