Driving along Happily and Car suddenly dies
Well I hope somebody can help on this.
I'm driving down the road happily and the car just dies as if the ignition was disabled. Even leaving the car in gear and rolling, no ignition. Let the car sit for a minute or two, and boom, it fires up.
What could the problem be? I changed all of the ignition components, but it is not unheard of to have a faulty replacement part.
Any ideas?

No, it dies like you had an ignition kill switch and you flipped it. Even while the car is rolling after it dies and it's in gear, the tach registers zero rpms.
What I have on it right now is a comp cam 12-238-2, weiand dual plane intake, of course the distributor I described and the carb is the cc controlled carb for now. It worked fine on the stock set up with the computer disengaged, runs rich, but runs ok. I have a holley I am going to put on, but want to get the engine running right so that I can tune the holley right.....

Ignition module!!! The tach is the clue that seals the deal. The only other pssibility us the battery wire to the dist, but I'd bet it's the module.
This car is ripping you a new one these days, isn't it!?!?

RB,
I'm so furious and frustrated I'm ready to give this thing away. It's been an excellent exercise in patience and self-control.
I suspected the ignition module as well. I just replaced it, but was hearing some arcing going on in there before I replaced the condensor. When I removed it, I noticed that some of the plastic in there was missing. Of course that means that it no insulation between the two connectors and that's probably where I got my arcing and what fried what ever got fried.
The reason the tach was showing twice the rpm of the engine earlier was because the distributor ground clamp (the center post) was missing. I lost it somewhere and wasn't aware...had to make another visit to the parts store.
Listen, on the other side of the module, towards the back side of the engine, is there supposed to be a plastic cover on that side as well?
