So yesterday I get off work...

.....and Im about a mile from home.Im siiting at a light waiting to make a left.My steering wheel is kinda resting on my leg due to the screws in the tilt column coming loose.Im too lazy to spend 3-4 hrs to fix it and too cheap to pay someone else .Anyway, the light turns green and I make my turn.About 3/4 the way around the corner...POW!!!!! my friggin steering wheel twist at the tilt.I mean the wheels in my crotch and the turn signals on the right and my keys are on the left!!!

The car dies and luckily rolls into a yard.Since I was coming from a stop I wasnt going fast.No-one was hurt and the Camaro was unscathed(other than the steering wheel).I consider myself lucky since usually that lights green and I hit it alot faster.

Moral:dont put it off!!!!If you know its f'd up fix it or it may bite you in the *** someday! It only cost $112 to fix. It couldve cost my life of someone elses.

Nice story...

So the steering column fell? Or the wheel broke off, or the tilting part just came loose and spun around?

I guess you can say the tilt came loose, fell off and twisted around.

Why would you put off fixing a safety issue like that though? That's like ignoring the huge puddle of brake fluid under the car.

What ended up being the problem with it?

I put it off in part due to being told it wouldnt come off.I know better now.:lala: thats why I posted a warning to the other lazy asses out there

It ended up being the 4 screws coming loose enough to come completely off.Luckily nothing else broke during the incident.

Yeah, and if you hadn't of waited so long, it would have cost nothing.. Those four torx screws that hold the base tilt assembly come loose quite often on GM tilt columns... So yeah, go fix it now everyone!

Well, at least the worst that came out of it was maybe a messed up lawn

:nono: No more putting of safety things Could have been a child or another F-body instead of the lawn.
