Gains from Vortec's to E-Tec 200's

I want to switch to E-tec 200 heads on my motor. Everything will remain the same except I will finally get to use some 1.6 rockers instead of the 1.5's I have now.

Can this setup make 450 hp?

How much better will the motor run?

the Etec 200's have a larger port.
Some motors with mild /moderate cams will actually loose power with the larger heads.

I would not expect much gain just by swapping the heads.

More power in porting your vortecs and installing larger valves. You'll have the flow of a Etec 200 and still be way under 200cc port volume.

I'd look at the Etec 170 maybe with a little port tweeking.

Brodix also makes some Vortec/ Fastburn style heads that are under 200cc port volume.

It would be a worthwhile swap if you stuck a new cam in at the same time.

Otherwise I would imagine that new big heads with the Hotcam wont score you much, solid roller yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!!!

I got the E-Tec 170s with a CC 224/230 cam and SR EFI, got her trapping 113.5mph so far behind a 700R4.

Curious, im almost done building almost the exact same engine as you except for im using a zz4 cam and 1.6rollers. 10:1 compression and I was really hoping for hi 12s on street tires. Now even with your 60ft how the hell did you manage a 12.1 or 12.2 what ever you have. I will also be using the bottle which I want to see your 1/4 mile #s with but you dont have nitrous or any other form of forced induction in your mod list. Let me know thanks.

Yeah that is a damn quick ET for the short time posted.

I pulled the same trap speed with the same short time and was rewarded with a lousy 12.5et.

All motor. The car had weight reduction as in no seats, smaller wheels, no sway bar and no spare tire. I have a fiber glass hoods too and a T-5. My BFG DR's were going bald and I would just spin off the line with 1.9 60 foots. I had the top end HP though to keep me moving through the 12's though. The car has seen some low 1.8's when my bfg's were new, but I still could only launch at 3500 or less, I needed some ET streets and skinnines. The car has the power to pull a 1.7x 60 foot. I have pretty much reached the limit of the stock drivetrain( T-5 and 10 bolt) and I don't want to replace them, so I prolly won't be racing too much anymore for a while.

BTW: to all non-believers, I am running an Edelbrock 600 CFM carb on my motor and throttle response is awesome, a 750 lost me some ET. Be nice to have a DP carb though.

OMINOUS_87: How did you use E-Tec heads with the stealth ram? Aren't the bolt patterns different?

Well bro I got the same weight reduction as you except for the removed sway bars and I am using street tires. Ill be getting my block back this Saturday and hopefully I can get it all built and dropped in this weekend as well, if not then by next weekend. Ill be sure to post the times that it pulls at the track and well see where im at. I must say pretty dang impressive :hail:
