Is this a good idea?

Sitting thinking today. When I built my motors before, whats the one thing I really really wanted but couldnt see forking out the cash for??

An Aluminum block.

Edelbrock now has an aluminum intake to put a carb on an ls1 / ls6. Aluminum blocks are $4000. Im sure you could pick up a long block LS-1 for $1500 or so (purely a guess, no reasearch)

Plus LS1 heads have great flow from the factory. This seems like a no brainer!! Just wanted to get others opinions on the idea..

Ideally id like to have the aluminum block because it has a much bigger market for parts but the price puts it out of range. If weight is really a concern id spend the extra cash on the ls1 instead of building on the iron block.

I was just thinking that if you could get a LS1 long block cheap enough, even one with low miles and just set a carb on top it would be a great buy. Just as an everyday driver, stock.

Even if it is $2000. Its still new technology and light weight material. At about the same cost as a decent rebuild with small upgrades!

Edit: i do understand there will be other cost to swap it in, before i get blasted lol :hail:
