PLease help, fan won't start, engine boiling...
Summer is here and in rushhour traffic today, my car overheated bad and I found out that the fan didnt spin at all.
The air deflector is in good condition, so are all the fuses in the fusebox under the dash at the left leg.
I thought perhaps I should find the electronic thing that senses the temp and check that, but I just couldn't find anything. Nor do my chilton manual say anything about it.
Usually it's only a wire that's jumped off or something... but I donT know where to look actually.. My car is an exportmodel, Lg4 carbed, but I do think it has a computer..., but no smog equipment, or cat.
Perhaps its the relay or the temp sensor, but where and which one is it?
Edit: Found a sensor, but the one I found is supposed to be on 82-85 cars, drivers side head, but for 86-up the manual just shows that it's on the end of a wire...lol, well even I could have figured that! I did find a relay, on the far right of the engine bay. Is this the one?
So I need to find the temp sensor or switch and perhaps relay...Dont know how to troubleshoot them though...

The sensor in the left side head is for the gauge. The one in the right side head is the fan switch.

Yeah, I just read through that post before posting myself, It didn't solve any.. at least why my fan won't go..
This is what I have been thinking: Find the right sensor, take it out, take it inside, take in in a casserole of boiling water and check the resistance with an ohm meter. So far so good. But the coolant will be pouring out of it's hole right?
But after that I'm blank.. don't know how to check a relay, when I even don't know where it sits..

With your ignition in the 'run' position, you can take the wire on the fan switch and ground it. If the fan comes on, the relay is good. If the fan doesn't come on but you hear a 'click' (not real loud) anyways, problem with the wiring to the fan or the fan itself.
If you want to test the switch, you can plug the hole with a small cork or rubber stopper if you don't have anything to screw back in the hole. The switch can be heated with a lighter or water or something that goes hotter than 238°f (temp the switch closes). It will give an audible 'click' when it closes (at least my old one did). It is a on/off switch.

It was as I suspcted, the connector was loose. I finally found the temp switch with the help of some small mirrors since it's tucked good in below the manifold.
THe connector was all brittle and just crumbeled to dust as I tuched it. So now I need a new connector and possibly a new temp switch.
Who may sell such a connector, anyone know?
Anyways, thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

You can get most replacement connectors from Standard Motor Products, the dealership, http://www.acdelco.com/html/catalog/index_auto.htm, or http://www.motormitedormancatalog.com/start.wws
At least you won't need a flashlight for the next couple of months.

Flashlight?
THey stocked alot of parts, but didn't have the connector I need. A universal connector won't do either. I found the temp switch, and at least that's ok now that I know what it's supposed to look like:

If anyone could get me one of those connectors, send it in a small envelope with airmail, I would pay you what you want for it, if it's at least a somewhat reasonable amount.
