Question about EGR and code 32

I just read through the tech article "lowdown on code 32" and various other posts on the egr and code 32 through searching, and I understand what it does and for the most part why the code is thrown, but I have a couple questions still.

The tech article never mentioned the sensor that is in the egr valve, what exactly does that sensor do, and can it cause problems if that sensor is bad? From what I understand the ECM controls the solenoid which controls the vacuum to the valve, so what does that sensor on the valve do then?

See, I throw a code 32 on a cold start, but not on a warm start, and I used to firmly think it was that sensor on the valve that is causing the code to be thrown. ( The reason I think it is the sensor is because when we rebuilt the motor we put a new valve, and solenoid on, but used the same valve sensor, and we had to solder the wire back on the sensor. )

Can I get some insight as I go out and run some tests?

Thanks

spearson

That sensor is the EGR Temperature diagnostic switch and is not in all EGR Valves, that is why it is not mentioned. I have posted the troubleshooting chart for the code 32 several times on this board for the various engine models. you can do a search and find it. If you can't find it let me know and I will e-mail it to you.

Is the attached picture the diagnostic chart you are talking about? What exactly does the temperature diagnostic switch do anyways?

Actually no, this is the one that I was referring too. I also have the charts for the other engine models as well.
