Is this the fan sensor?

My fan doesn't want to turn on when it should. Is this the fan sensor (from the passenger side) that I am looking for? If it's not, how far away am I and what sensor is this. That's the end of the starter in the bottom right corner of the pic.

2 Man,

Obviously, the photo link didn't fly. What fuel system, year, engine do you have? There are some differences across the years and models.

If you can't get the link to work, describe the location more accurately, or better yet, let us know what color wires are on the electrical connector to the sensor.

Your fan switch is the one above the solinoid on your starter.
Here is a diagnosis sequence for tpi f-bodys:

The fan switch has a one wire lead going to it, and grounding this lead with the ignition in 'run position should turn on your passenger side fan. If it does than your switch needs to be replaced. If it doesn't then check the fan motor circut fuse. This is mounted to the passenger side wall of your engine compartment in a little black box by the battery with two wires coming in and out of it. If this isn't blown then chances are your relay is blown or your fan motors are bad.

There are other possibilities to:
-bad fan/relay ground
-faulty wiring somewhere in the mix
-a bad coolent temp. sensor(intake manifold)
-or even a faulty ecm

Hope this helps a little, I could write more but it would be a lot, lot more. Good Luck

That's exactly the sensor (knock I think) that I'm trying to unplug! Someone has to know how!

2 Man,

That's the knock sensor...

What engine do you have again?

U ROCK,

Squeeze the square tabs on the sides of the sensor connector (at the top and bottom in the photo) and the connector should release easily. Don't force it, it should almost fall off once the connector is squeezed corectly.

vader,

it's the 305 TBI.

How far away from this one is the fan sensor? Is it easier to get at from above or below??

2 Man,

It's about as far as Bloomer is from the Falls...

Actually, it's on the right (passenger side) cylinder head, and should have a dark green wire on it.
