Awww hell....

We had a hell of a hail storm yesterday, golf-ball sized.

Anyway, no worries on the Camaro, it was in the garage.

What worries me is the Caprice, no dents on the body, BUT, the hail cracked the hell out of the vinyl roof.

Can I just rip the vinyl roof off? What's the deal with a vinyl top?

You can rip the vinyl off, but the trim is screwed to the roof I believe

It'll be ugly. Not sure how concerned you are about "ugly", but it is generally cheaper to replace the vinyl top than it is to prep the metal for paint on a car originally equipped w/vinyl top.

Shouldn't that be, "Awww hail...."?

Awesome stones. In '82, my '57 was out in grapefruit-size hail in Colorado Springs. Fortunately, they were mostly mush on the outside, hard part was about the size of yours or smaller. Didn't put even a single dent in it.

i dont have personal experience with vinyl tops, but when i was interested in a vinyl topped monte carlo one time, my brother in law said not to mess with it, if you do have to pull it off, its not fun, and if i remmber correctly its not too easy to replace.. good luck in any case

Well, I took a closer look, it looks fairly easy, I was planning on ditching all the trim anyway.

Same hail storm that came over this way i guess. I was so glad it was only dropping pea size hail instead of golf ball size since my camaro is permanetly parked right now (no fuel injectors) and i have no garage to put it in heh. Don't take pictures of mom's holding ***** anymore thats sick man :P

We had some dime sized hail @ about 3 in the morning from that storm. I would'a been pretty po'ed since my cars were outside.

Yeah, but you've got a great story that starts out: "There I was minding my own business, my mom holding my ***** in her hand......"

Vinyl top can't be just ripped off an painted. It's unfinished metal edges under there. Big bucks. Get the top replaced. Or you could just leave it and the roof will rust through in a few years!

I talked to the dealer, the guys there said it was just a regular roof under the vinyl. It's going bye bye....
