well i cant seem to get my piston rings to compress and i had a friend help me and he said that he knew someone with the same problem and the person ended filing down the rings width wise has anyone ever had this problem or heard of it?

 

Did you set the gap prior to installing the rings? You shouldn't have a problem if you did. Yes, people file down rings all the time. If you float over to Summit's site they have some good pics of some of the filers. You can probably find a good overview through google as well as some pics.

 

no i didnt set the ring gap do you think that is my problem?

 

It is if you got file fit rings.

 

check you ring end gaps and fix it if it isn't right. they should fit with very little effort.
