building my lo3, need advice w/blower, cam, fuel delivery
i'm planning on putting a 144 powercharger on my 92 rs w/ the factory 305. a few questions: first, it has less than 5% diference in compression between cylenders, (actually five of them are right on the nuts and three of them are a bit higher) but my oil pressure is in my opinion a little low ( about 20 psi at idle then when you give it a little gas it goes up to 45-50), so..... should I rebuild it, whould i throw it in the weeds and get a 350 or what, also will the two bolt mains hold 350 hp? will the 'charger bolt to my centerbolt heads, they're factory 92, not vortec or anything. i want to go with whatever is cheapest, since the only reason i'm doing this is that the car just got totaled and the insurance will pay for it to an extent ( gave me a lot of money but the body work is going to take less than half of it, no mechanical damage) I'm not looking to ubild a drag car out of it just want to make it fun and be able to beat those d@#n 6 banger mustangs running around everywhere, and blowers are really, really cool, okay, last question, could i keep my tbi injection swap in a 454 throttle body and get a chip burned for it, i really really wantto keep the injection even though it will probbly be harder since whell, i like injection, any opinions on any or al of my questions would be appreciated, thanks!

Yes build a 350, since your going to have to build an engine anyway to support a supercharger.

would it be a downgrade from a roller 305 to a hydraulic flat tappet 350? I was planning on swapping the cam and possibly putting new bearings in it, but i really wanna see people's faces when i tell 'em they got beat by a 305. also, the 144 holley is a pretty small supercharger think inbetween a 4-71 and 6-71.

Why not just find a roller 350 block if you want a hydraulic roller cam. If not just use a solid roller cam in a regular 350 or 400. And why not just build a 383.

mi es poor and i like the idea of making the infamous 305 beat some 350's also, i kinda don't want to pull the motor if i dont have to but it's lookin glike I might have to anyway, also, I need to be done with the whole project by august 20, and i have to strip bondo and paint the whole car first, since the reason i can afford the blower is because some ******* rear-ended me and the insurance company totaled it out and wrote me a check, soooooo i kinda just wanna make it be a fun snappy car that looks evil and if i can find the 13's that would be nice too. the car really needs a blower b/c of how it looks, check the pics and you'll agree, just tryin to figure out how to do it, i'm figuring i have about a week for drivetrain work b/c it'll probably take almost three weeks to fix and repaint it, since i'm painting the whole car.

Why don't you build a 350, and just tell them it's a 305? The only way they will know is if they check the casting number.
heck yes man, that is how it is done. man those darn ri**** and blue oval ponies would not even know what such a thing was. They never heard of 8 cylinders and 350 cubic inches of raw power. Heck the smallest GM small block put in camaro and f-birds of that era are bigger than the biggest ford put in the mustangs, even today, I just don't think the good ol' "no replacement for displacement" has forced it's way into ford's head, they are just to stubborn to actually build a real motor.

If it was TPI I would say go for it, however I don't know how well TBI reacts with a blower under it. There's a TBI specialty company can't remember the name of it, you can do a search, that sells all sorts of TBI parts. There's a reason you don't see really fast TBI cars, they are hard to tune and don't like big cams. I'm not a TBI expert. a TBI 305 is not a great perfomance platform to build from. I have one in my 89 T/A. It sucks. The only thing i might do to it is put 3.42 posi in it and a 1800-2000 stall to make it a little more spirted to drive. If you want to keep the TBI you could put a 350 under it, or get one from a truck, there's a few million out there I would assume. You'd have the larger cubic inches but TBI still. Hope this helps, I'm not trying to rain on your parade just trying to give you an accurate picture of whats going on.

i MIGHT think about the 350 thing, but i realllllly want to keep the tbi, aftermarket ones are a massive chunk of chip, and the holley systems are pretty close to the factory gm ones, a 454 throttle body has quite a bit of cfm's also, i really like the idea of keeping the tbi, even if i maybe go 350, maybe. if anyone has any idea if anybody has put one on top of a roots that info would be great too, i had somebody tell me in the tbi forum that somebody did it before and to search but I cant find anything under search here or on google, i'm really stumped, but i know they do it, heck, holley sells a 144 for use with a tbi for trucks, i've seen it in summit but i cant find any info on that either, blah!
