Well, I'm no expert, but I would guess that's about the shift point from 2nd->3rd. You may want to give the RPM and the gear it is in to know for sure. The guy who knows all about the 700r4's is GMTech (according to Vader!) He could probably tell you for sure, but I think it sounds like some of the clutches are mal-functioning. Chek back for the experts opinion

I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but here goes...

If the bounce/ bog is speed related, then check tires and suspension. A flat spot in a tire will cause a vibraion or bounce at speed. A severely unbalanced tire will also cause it, but the wheel usually is trash if it's the problem. A driveshaft could be a problem, but I can't exactly describe driveshaft vibration as a 'bounce'.

If the engine speed is what's causing it, check the trans, since the first part of a 700-R4 to fail (normally)is usually the clutches in the 3-4 pack. A sticking 2/3 upshift valve or internal leak somewhere in the 2-3/3-4 circuits could cause a problem, but I'm not a transmission expert, I just do light-duty trans work. Ask GMTech, he knows his shi*, I know, I'm also a Chevy Tech (read his posts).

There could be 50 other tings to check, heres just a few. A little more info would help. Good luck finding your problem.

I had an '87 T/A too with the same damn problem. If your car is carbureted I can almost garantee that your carb needs a rebuild.

After a while (especially after 100k miles), so much GUNK collects in there and hurts the performance after the throttle opens a certain amount.

Also could be in need of a new fuel filter and HOPEFULLY not a fuel pump. If your car is TBI or TPI, it could be injector related. Keep us posted and good luck man!

its carbed another probable cause. anybody else ever have this problem also the car seems to be slower and i couldnt squeel the tires from a stop earlier today. i tried for 10 minutes and no spinning unless i held the brake. my takeoff hasnt been that good . i switched to 91 octane from 87 earlier today good idea or not?

Switching octanes is fine! However, to me it does sound like a fuel related problem!! You might need to rebuild the carb like mentioned earlier! You could also have a clogged fuel filter or the fuel line itself could be clogged somewhere!! Also, it's a possibility that you may have just gotten a bad batch of gas! Try some "heat" in the gas tank and see if that helps! Probably not somethin' that easy though!!

Another thing....is it a feedback computer controlled quadrajet carb!! If so, that could be your problem too! In that case, junk the Q-jet, buy a Holley or Edelbrock, and get a non-computer controlled distributor!!

i'd suspece it's tune up related with out driving your car. if you aren't sure if it hasa good tune up then i'd do that first, plus a compression check.

Maybe try a little more info, like RPMs, can you get past the bogging? Is it only at certain times Hot/Cold? Under load/not under load? Any suspicious noises? ECM codes? I have no experience w/ carbs, but my EFI was in major disrepair and I never had a condition like you described. (Injectors severly leaking, took 3 runs in the cleaner to get to properly flow!) FPR was blown, fuel filter still needs replacing. Pump is still ok though Knock on wood! I think more info would help!

I blame the carb. Maybe a rebuild will help your general acceleration, but at that shift point, I've always had to back off the throttle to get it to shift. From what I understand, it's a common occurence.
