Mounting provision on frame for a torque restraint?

I wanna use a torque restraint on my new engine to prevent excessive engine movment. I'll prolly just use a chain...altho I may get fancy and use spherical rod ends later. My question is about how I should mount it to the frame. Should I drill a hole vertically through the frame and just run a bolt through it? should I weld a plate to the top of the frame? What would you do?

use 2 rod ends in a solid rod. bolt one to the head and the other to 2 angle clips welded to the frame. you'd want the bolts to be in a double shear application if you can. you might want to get someone with a mig machine to weld the clips for you, or use self tapping bolts.

I am using a generic turn buckle from the hardware store. I tried an aluminum one first and bent it, So Went and got a steel one and it is living just fine. All I did is just drilled a hole straight through the frame, and then bolted the turn buckle to the head. I have absolutely no twist from the motor. Also My reaction times dropped considerably, by well over a tenth. My reaction times now are mid 500's to low 600's. I think its a good investment.

Shooting for low 12's.

Hey spud..have you noticed any distortion in the frame rail from the twisting?

No
I drilled all the way through about 6 inches behind the steering box. I got lucky my car has a rasied spot in the lower frame there so a 6in bolt will run through the entire frame. With this configuration my motor will not move in the slightest. Its sad to say i stole the turnbuckle idea from a mustang friend. (but it works thats all that matters to me)

Thanks spud..sounds pretty good to me. If I elongate the hole too much over time I can always weld it then.

I saw a T-type at the track once where he had tied his engine to a large (1/4 in diameter or so) eyebolt run through a frame member. Eyebolt wasn't tough enough though. Just as he was showing off his handiwork at the track someone noticed that the eyebolt was bent.

I always figured the real "Jester-ish" thing to do would be using a large rusty logging chain run up and over the intake.
