old 406 broke.. new 406 build up
ok the old short rod 406 spun a main.i got another block to go to the machine shop tomorrow to be hot tanked.the old motor had just the cast crank and the stock rods this time i want to get a forged crank and good rods.what do you guys think of good combition of crank rods and pistons ,somthing lightweight that will take the abuse.5.7 rod or 6 inch rod?this is a street car i would like somthing like 10:1 cr.ive been looking at the scat cranks and the eagle cranks,anyone ever dealt with them?check the sig for the other parts i already have.

I'd go with a forged crank, 5.7" rods, and about 9.5:1 compression.
6" rods aren't worth the money on a street motor. The gain is very little, and the rods and pistons to do it cost quite a bit more.

i use it for street use and drag it.rods and pistons are the same price so it realy doesnt matter if the 6 inch rod make the motor work easier i will go that way.i want it to turn 6500rpm safely.i will be getting the rotating asslembley balanced too.

I built my 406 using 6" Eagle rods and SRP flattop pistons and the cast crank. The combination of the piston and rod was much lighter so weight was able to be removed from the crank during balancing.
With the lighter rotating assembly, it allows the motor to rev quicker which really compliments the solid roller cam.
IMO - Go with the 6" rod!

yeah im leaning towards the 6 inch rod maybe the scat rods with the cap screws.i was looking at the srp/je pistons there pretty much the same price for 5.7 or 6.0 rods.

Check out CNC Motorsports for getting Eagle 6" rods, they have them for a good price. I ordered mine from there and got them without problems. Here's a pic of one along with a Wiseco piston

there finally got some parts ordered.didnt get a forged crank because i ran out of money but i still got good stuff.here it is....scat 9000 cast steel crank,scat 6 inch rods ones with cap screws,wiseco protru pistons,and all the gaskets,bearings and an oil pump to put it back together.those h series engine bearing are expensive arnt they..total was about $2800canadain before tax and that includes balance the assembly,hot tank,boreing and decking the block.
