Why can't I pull my codes.
Why can't I pull my codes.
I had the check engine light come on last night and when I went to pull the code nothing happened. I used a paper clip to jump A & B and had the ignition in acc. but the light just stay on.

Your car won't go into diagnostic mode if you have the ignition in "acc".
You need to have the ignition in the "run" position with the engine OFF.
turn the key to the point right before the engine starts to crank, and you are in the right position. THEN jump A and B with the paper clip.

I turn the key the way forward, didn't start it though. I've pulled codes from it before but thiss time its wierd. I had to replace the O2 sensor so i disconnected the neg battery cable. as soon as I turned the key the code was back.
What is the deal? I've pulled and cleared codes before, but this time its acting funny. I even disconnected the ECM power cable and nothing changed. still came on.

Mikes idea sounds like the problem. The ECM fuse also runs to several ECM controlled devices under the hood, and a short in one of them, or the wiring would blow the ECM fuse. Weird thing, it was an '86 Iroc that I saw the problem on! The pink wire with black tracer got caught under the valve cover and over time it rubbed through the insulation and caused the problem!
Good luck!
