oil filter ? (not the usual)

I went to autozone today to get the stuff to change my oil.
I usualy only use Mobil 1 for both.
when looking for the filter M1-202 I couldnt find it or the tag on the shelf for it.
I went up to the counter and asked about it so the guy looked it up and gave me the new number for it. I go back pick it up and this filter is only half the size it should be(its shorter).
Needless to say I didnt get it and decided to give K&N a second try.

maybe one of you all could shed some light on why Mobil would change the size of the filter for SBC engines. I always hear about people using slightly bigger(taller) filters not smaller.
It makes no sence to me as the M1-202 filter was popular and many times autozone would run out of stock.

Probably because it isn't economical for them to produce and stock half a dozen nearly identical filters that only vary by length.

Yup, I always buy truck filters for mine... a '79 4x4 Suburban 350 to be specific... they are BIG filters compared to stock Camaro stuff.

Wel lat least you are staying away from the "orange cans of death" filters Try an M1-302 mobil one filter. This is the standard length filter.

Or you can get a 15 micron filter in a 2 quart version from amsoil for around $10.50 each. Amsoil is the only manufacturer I know of to make a 15 micron filter in the 2 quart version. It has over double the filtering area of a standard filter, and adds almost a full extra quart of extra oil capacity.

If you are interested in learning more about oil and filters go here. And be sure to read up about German Castrol.
