This air cleaner fit?
Hey, I got a question. I've got a tall-ish intake for my 350 (about 1" taller than stock aluminum 4bbl intake) and a Holley 3310 on top of it. I already know that my L69 air cleaner wont work, and I need an air cleaner to fit under the stock '83 'glass Z28 hood.
Will this base fit over that carb?

Yes it will fit the carb. it fits a holley, edelbrock and a qjet.
all with minor mods.
To fit a holley carb will require modding the throttle cable bracket to sit lower to the manifold. (to clear the base) The choke horn has to be cut off and the bowl vent tubes shortened. If you're using a large cap HEI distributor then a flat has to be cut on the back side of the air cleaner base to clear the cap.
This is the original air cleaner base used on Hi- performance chevys from the 60's and 70's. It sits lower on the carb then any other 14" aircleaner and allows the most hood clearance. Use a 14x3" filter and any typical chrome 14" air cleaner lid.
The OEM holleys for this application were a little different than yours. They had a lower height choke horn and downleg boosters, or no air horn (427-L-88). But your holley only requires the choke horn be removed and the vents tubes shortened.
Click here to see how nice and low it sits on my Firebird with a Hi rise Performer RPM intake.
Both Edelbrock and Holley should have some manufacturer mass produce this old chevy air cleaner base for them. It works.

So basically, it will need to be cut up somewhat to work on a SBC with a vac. advance HEI? But it will fit over the length of the double pumper carb?
