Cam & Lifter Kit

I have a Cam & Lifter kit and I need to know if it will work in my car. Here is the info: Crane Energizer 272 H10 Matched Cam & Lifter Kit, Part #100052. It says it's for Chevy V8 262-400, 57-87. If it won't work in mine, can you tell me why (other than the fact it says for 57-87 )? If you have a website, let me know. I did a search and came up with nothing. Thanks. For info on my car, check out my Sig!

I am sorry, but for all the times you have rubbed in your notchback, I am afraid i cannot offer any advice at this moment.

When they say the 57-87 years, all they are saying is that the cam is a flat tappet cam

There is no phsyical difference in cam or lifter sizes for the pre-87 to post-87 roller blocks. The only difference is the tappet style. Both are standard .842" diameter and the cam journals are of equal size as well, so yes it will fit. You will have to change pushrods. I am assuming your 88 block is still in the engine. If that is the case, your pushrods are 7.2" or 7.3", cannot recall off head which. But flat tappet cams, like the one you show, is requires longer pushrods, 7.8" long. Once those are met, yes, it will fit. Assuming 1.5 ratio, it will probably fit under factory springs as well.

As to how it PERFORMS, that's another case. It's on the edge of needing tuning to run correctly. If it were on a wider lobe seperation I would say it would be OK. However, the timing specs mroe of less indicate a mild non-computer controlled design meaning it wasn't designed for factory TPI engines. I would say tuning would be requred to make it run correctly.

Another thing to consider: why backslide to a flat tappet design? Sure, they can make decent power on a budget, but for a 305 roller block, the LT1 cam is a great alternative. On that note, ever think of using the LT1 cam?

This one is free, but I want to make sure it will work. I still have the original engine. BTW, sorry if I rubbed my Notch in your face.
