car starts once a day
i have just recently had the heads off to fix broken manifold bolts and now it is back together minus the smog stuff. i try to start it and usally the second time it will start and idle for about 30 seconds then die and not start again all day. the next day it will do the same thing. Any ideas on what is wrong. last thing is the gas is 6 years old but it ran fine before i took the heads off so i guess the gas should still be fine but if not do you know how i can drain it all or if a can take the fuel lines and just put them in a bucket of fresh gas. any help would be great thanks

This might not make much sense, because your problem started happening after you did some head work.
But last year I had an ignition system failure that presented the same symptoms.
It never hurts to check.

i have already replaced the rotor coil and dist cap and wires. i did buy new wires from 002 but the were crappy kem kind and were broken with out me knowing until a friend showed me so i bought accels from summit. after i made the first post a put a non computer controlled carb on and if i give it 1/4 throtle it starts and as long as i don't let it idle it stays alive. but gas is spewing everywhere from it. any idea why so much gas is coming out. also what should i do with the wires that plugged into the carb. as far as the old gas goes the story is it hasn't been driven since 98 when my dad took it off the road becasue the exhaust system was rotten away and headliner was bad, needed brakes, clucth and to replace all that would cost as much as another car so he bought another car

If gas is spewing out "all over the place" then I would rebuild the carb (if that is where the gas is coming from). Also, if you replaced a cc carb with a non cc carb, did you also replace the cc distributor with a non cc distributor?
Rebuild/replace the carb, put in the correct distributor and get the fuel system completely cleaned out and replaced with fresh fuel.
See what happens then.
