Little engine trouble

Was just running my engine for a bit. Gave it a half stomp on the pedal from idle, engine raced up fine, but stayed probably at 2500ish when I let off (no tach in car atm).

Checked the throttle linkage just incase, but it was fine. Car cranks really hard/slow, so I'm guessing the timing shot up too advanced? That would explain the increase in idle speed and hard to impossible starting, correct?

I just can't figure out how this would happen, distributor is tight. Running msd 6al, mechanical advance billet distributor, coil/wires and a holley 650 doublepumper. I don't have a timing light, so thats another problem right there.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks,

Check the secondary throttle plate alignment and actuation linkage. Sticky secondaries can be tricky.

I don't think I would have thought to check that. That was the problem. Just opened it a little bit and when I closed it I could feel it catch something, little dirt or the like, and it closed fully. Started up and idled normal. Dunno why it was hard to turn over last night after I shut it down though.

Thanks for the help!
