Slow Top Speed

Hi, i got a 1992 Camaro RS with a 305 TBI. My problem is that my top speed is only 110 mph. I was told that when i bought this car they had put a computer chip that gives me 20 horsepower and better gas milage into my car. I was wondering if this could bne the reason for my low top speed. Please leave any helpful comments. Thanx Kyle

odds are if it was an off the shelf chip, you probably didnt gain anything measurable.

Well with the 305 TBI there are many things that contribute to its slow top speed. First off the standard tires on the RS cars were not rated to sustian speeds over that limit. Even some LS1 cars were limited at 118 or so for the same reason. The other thing is that your car has 170hp. It is slow. Mine is slow. Without the limiter a stock LO3 car would only muster 120 - 130 or so with the right amount of road. It is pointless to go that fast as well as unsafe. The chip they gave you also did not give you 20hp. If anything you lost power with it. Off the shelf TBI chips are garbage. You will eventually have to learn how to burn your own chips. That way you can make the most out of your future mods as well as re-setting the limiter.
