new timing setup, need help!
alright, sorry guys if this is redundant to a previous thread but i did a search of old threads and couldn't find what i needed so here goes...
i have an 84 z28 that i just completed an engine swap on from the 305 to a new gm 350 stock 250hp (money was a big issue). Now that i've got the new engine in there, i also bought a HEI distributor with the supercoil.
i installed the distr. at 0* TDC according to the timing pointer and the harmonic balancer. Now what i need to do is put the wires on the plugs and the cap.
But here's the question... how do i set the timing advance/retard with the rotor and what should it be set too? I am completely knowledgeless of the so-called "timing science". HELP!

Let's get back to the basics:
Which damper did you use, the 305 one, or did the 350 come with one?
The mark on the damper pointing at the "0" could be firing position #1 or #6 - did you pull a spark plug or valve cover to know which one it is?
What carb are you using?
Why did you replace the distributor?

ok... u'll have to excuse me... i'm pretty dumb in this area. i haven't yet put the wires on the plugs cuz i dont know the order. i also don't know what a damper is... sorry. i have a 600 cfm edel carb (also not installed yet). i went with the HEI distr. cuz i was told it would be best to go with the carb and pretty much bypass the computer all together.
once again, sorry for my retardedness...
