How many different keys are there for the third gen F-body? Ignition and door keys. It's impossible to create a unique key for each of the 3 million f-bodies sold in 82-92. And knowing GM, they wouldn't even bother to try. I've heard there are abut a dozen different ignition keys every few years, am I hearing right? I mean I know certain other keys that will open my door, but that's just because of crappy design. Excluding VATS, how many unique keys do you think exist? Even with VATS, there are only 25 different VATS resistances. If there were 25 keys with 25 different resistances, then that's only 625 unique keys including VATS!

 

4 codes with 10 possible per code is 10x10x10x10 or 10,000.
Add the 25 VATS and you get 25x10x10x10x10 or 250,000

I don't think they have put more than 4 codes on their keys yet, but I don't mess with the new cars.

Figuring 3 million VATS equipped cars, you have about an 8% chance of finding one that your key will fit.
