HELP ---> Did '86 TAs have the "peanut cam" ???

I'm about to go looka t an '86 Trans Am, and I just read that that year TAs came with the "peanut cam" which reduced the HP to 190. Is this true, will I get 20 HP's if I replace the cams? Also is there any Torque loss from these peanut cams?

If I do decide to replace the cams, how much will it cost for a quality set of cams??

Thx for all your help

-Max

86 TPI engines have the small cam, yes.

I doubt if you will get 20hp by replacing the cam with any other stock cam. And there is only one cam in the engine FYI. Its quite a job to change, so if you are looking for something quick that you dont have to put a bunch of effort into right away, I would suggest a 350.
