thought about this after i posted about the white smoke. when i start the engine it will stumble and cut off especially when i put it in gear. if i drive about a block it will run ok after that, have already cleaned the linkage on the carb and tuned up. what else should i try????

 

is the choke functional/adjuste properly? To me, this sounds like a choke issue.

Make sure the choke is getting proper voltage, make sure there are no gummed linkages, make sure its set correctly.

On a side note, you are pushing the gas before starting, correct?

 

yep sometimes if im in a hurry ill put the a/c on and that helps
