Gas Mileage Mods..Non Third-Gen

I just scored a 90 Model S10 Blazer with 55,000 original miles. Bought it from the original owner. It has the 4.3L TBI engine in it. Its gonna be my daily driver for the rest of college, and I need some gas mileage out of it. Any ideas, guys?

just keep it nicely tuned, relpace O2 (have fun, it's in a crappy spot...me and my buddy ran into some trouble when we changed his...) otherwise they are nice trucks and the motors aren't half bad, a little tight to work on tho, but u should be used to that hehe

Get into eprom burning and invoke Highway Mode (called "Lean Cruise" with your ecm IIRC).

I've got a 91 2wd 4door s15 jimmy, 4.3L tbi. 139,000 miles and I can get 23 down the highway. Keep it tuned up. I would replace the dist. cap and rotor, plug wires, plugs, O2 sensor, ect... if you haven't yet. Chances are you have a 4wd. That will get you down closer to 20 mpg on the highway. What gears do you have? (mine are 3.08's) Around town it will be quite a bit worse, those 4.3's aren't very efficent. They are tough though(it's a 350 chevy minus 2 cylinders) Mine doesn't use any oil and runs great. Use the low rpm torque of the 4.3 and keep the rpms down.

I've already replaced the cap/rotor/plugs/wires. I am going to look at the O2 sensor in a few minutes to see how easy it is to get to. It is a 2WD, I was only looking to buy 2WD vehicles. Took a long time to find a 2DR/2WD combination, but patience finally paid off. The only thing that I would have preferred would be a T5 tranny, but thats like searching for a 1LE. Thanks for the info guys...keep it coming.

BTW, I got 20.65 miles to the gallon on my first tank. That is before the ignition tune up.
