Swap Help!
Ok guyz how much would it be to have someone put in a 305..i have a V6 now so i was wondering how much the place would cost for a swap..all i need is ballpark figure...i found an engine for 2g's and its puts out 275hp i wanna join the 8's so gimme a figure guyz
If your going for a v8 you should go ahead and get a 350, I personnally am gonna keep my 305 displacement but that is because it came stock like that, there is no reason you couldnt do it yourself with our supervision(unless it is fuel injected). If you still want a shop to do it, it will only cost like 400 big ones probably(carbuerated)
really thats it?? 400 bux..thats not bad at all..i would rather someone do it a pro ya know..i can do the normal fix its but it makes me feel better....so 2g's for the engine then 400 bux to put it in so say like 3 or 4g's..nice!!!
I would be very careful about who I would have install it. From some of the swaps I have seen where someone other the owner did the swap you would probably be a lot better off doing it your self! Unless you pay the big money for one of the custom shops to do all the mod work.
my 3 cents.........

It's always a stuggle to do your first swap, but if you prefer a garage to install the engine, just go in talk to the guys about doing one of these swaps and look around. There should be some sort of organization and cleanliness. Also if they sounds like they are full of BS when you ask them questions......just turn and run ! Find another shop and try again. May take some time, but if you make friends with the mechanic your set for life, same goes for a spped shop. If you do get it installed at a speed shop, that gets your foot in the door the next time you need something done/upgraded/installed.

V6(60*) and V8(90*) have different bellhousing bolt patterns and maybe input shaft length but I am not sure on that one.

I have personally seen two "shop" installed V8's and both were peice of crap jobs.
If someone quotes your a low low price, be weary.
Its real easy to say " yeah, Ill put that motor In for 400 bucks " now, and then once the motor is halfway In, its hot out, and Its the 3rd day into the project and **** just isnt goin right ( cause it never does ) To say fu(kit and Start riggin. Trust me, Ive been there. Even with friends cars, The motivation To Do a top notch Job can really drop off when It starts taking longer than Planned, Or something more appealing Comes to Mind.
When its your own car, Your more likely to Do a good Jobber. And If you decided to Rig stuff, Your the one who lives with the consequences, not some stupid kid you don't even know. Makes you think twice about taking shortcuts.

I just swapped a 305 for a 350 and i spend over $150 for parts and supplies, above and beyond the engine. Some of that was to fix some of the afro-engineering that had been done previously. In my opinion to go from a V-6 to a V-8 your looking at a ballpark figure of $700 + parts. That would be for a carb, it would alos include shop supplies like gasket maker and oil. You will need to provide the carb and manifold, fuel pressure regulator, and of course the engine. If you go with injection you don't want to know the amount.
If you have a friend that can help you with the difficult parts you should consider doing it yourself. It's not that hard overall and you'll fell better knowing you did it yourself.
