Car is deiseling!!!
How do you fix this....
I have a carbed 355 and when i shut the car off in park, it tries to restart itself and then throws the belt off track. But when I shut the car off in drive with a load still on the motor then it's fine....what causes this and how can i fix it.
Thanks,
25thredrs

Too much timing is a common cause.

How many miles on the engine and does it do this if you shut down in drive then shift to park after the engine is off?

The engine only has about 200 miles on it. And no, it doesnt try to restart after putting it in park....If you shut it off in drive, it is then safe to put it in park. also it will run fine and idle in park, you just cant turn it off in park.
thanks

What is it in drive? Try lowering it some more. I think you are dieseling because you have too much idle speed.

I'm with IHI on this one... What is your base timing set at? Are you running your vacuum advance off ported or manifold vacuum??

My idle drops to 500 when i put it in drive....any lower and it will stall..i think it's because of my cam...it's a .510 lift......the timing right now is set at 18 degress BTDC...i'm running an MSD Distributer and a MSD Blaster 2 coil...the distributor is vacume advance and runs to a port in the side of the carb.

The cam lift doesn't matter.
Sounds like you have carb/dist tuning issues, that are requiring the idle to be set too high (throttle blades too far open).
You need to get the carb straightened out to where it will idle at 800 or so out of gear, and 600 or so in gear. That will fix the run-on problem.
