Replacing heater core 1991 Camaro

According to Chilton's, the right and left hush panel, upper dash pad, front speaker retaining nuts, both side window defrost ducts, radio trim plate, upper console trim,
emergency brake handle grip, trim plate under steering column, and lower the column all have to be removed.
Is it possible to replace heater core without removing all of the above?
I have coolant pooling in passenger side floorboard. I can see it dripping off a bolt holding a black box on passenger side
when I took the hush panel off.
BTW, this is an RS LO3 VIN "E" with 39,500 miles.
Thanks
Matt

I managed to get by with only removing Radio/HVAC bezel, the ducting behing the HVAC bezel, and the pass side kick panel. Now this was on an 85 and 87 model birds. Your 91 could be a different animal as far as trim removal goes.

Also, you will need two 12" 1/4" extensions and a universal, plus be good at getting your hands in TIGHT places.

Here http://www.sethirdgen.org/heater.htm is a Tech article wrote, IIRC, by GMTech. It is what I followed and I got the job done.

Good luck to ya.

It's been a few years, but I didn't do anything from the top or driver's side of the dash. Everything was done underneath the passenger side. Those 9/32" bolts along the top of the core box were a pain to get to... I think I left a few out on purpose when I put the thing back together.

Any 1990-1992 Camaro owners performed this before that could share their experiences?
Apparently, it is alot easier on the earlier third gens's since nothing on the top, ie dash pad or drivers side has to be removed.
Thanks

The only real difference should be the amount of Trim that needs to be removed. I cant imagine GM making a functional difference (like relocating, reattaching the heater core) that late in the run. So try it like we did. Worse case, you wind up frustrated, best case, you get it done easier than you thought.

BTW Chiltons and all the others usually show you the easiest way. However, it usually is also the longest and most tedius way. So which do you want? Easy,Long; Hard, Fast.

El Guapo,
To answer your question, neither! Easy and fast works for me. Of course thats usually not how it works out when working on a car you are unfamiliar with. What I was hoping is to get a reply from a 1990-92 Camaro owner that has done this before. Yes, I realize Chiltons, Haynes and even Mitchell is generically written in some cases.
Thanks anyways.

Re: Replacing heater core 1991 Camaro

have you checked your local auto parts store ? I'm sure they can get them . I think G.M. used the same htr. core on several different cars . good luck ...
