I'm cranky.....

.... because I can't find a small block Chevy crankshaft with the following specs:

4340 Forging
Stock stroke (3.48")
One-piece rear main seal
Anyone but Scat (extremely bad experience so no more of these for me.)

I thought this would be easy. It turns out that all the cranks I've found that are 4340 steel have a two-piece rear main seal. The only one-piece rear main seal cranks are strokers (3.75").

Does anyone know of such a crank?

Willie

Something like this:

Or are you thinking more high end? Crower? Callies? Cola? Lunati?

Thanks. I forgot about Eagle. I believe they are "equivalent" to Scat. I'm looking more for a high-end crank. Here's what I know to date:

Crower?
I've left multiple voicemails and have not received a call back.

Callies?
They do not make it. Confirmed via phone. Of course they could fab one to the tune of $2000.

Cola?
I've heard good things about Cola. I'll have to search to find a distributor to ask questions... Thanks!

Lunati?
I've heard they don't make one either but have no confirmation.

You can always run an rear main seal adapter. (1 pc RMS block, 2 pc RMS crank)

Cola looks promising:

http://www.racenet.net/eng/cola-cranks.php

They don't post their prices, so..... you know what that typically means.... I'll have to call in the morning. Thanks again!

Alright, I did some digging for you, Willie.

Lunati crank (not sure about the material, I believe it is 4340, though), make sure you see the note at the bottom of their page.

http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...CS/RaceSB.html

And for your viewing pleasure, here you are, Willie, Titan-Cola crankshafts (you can call them if you want to verify anything):

http://www.titancranks.com/

Looking at the real top end guys (Childs & Albert, HTC, Sonny's), they don't list the rear seal, so, I don't think it's that uncommon for top enders to list the RMS.

Was there a pun intended in your title?

Just call Cola and ask. 818-547-3600 Although it looks like they definitely do. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...916980495&rd=1

Or Lunati; 901-365-0950

I've had good results with e-mail contact with Crower, Brian Crower usually is the one who answers back.

I appreciate the effort guys. Here's what I've found.

Lunati does not make one with a two-piece rear. It's too early to call Cola. But I did call Race Engineering (Florida), a contact I got from Lunati. They told me Cola is no longer is business!! They advertise a two-year guarantee but what good is it if they're no longer around? I'll still try calling after they open.

Any opinions on a forged 1053 crank from GM Performance? They ARE a one-piece rear main design.

Cola no longer in busines??? That's funny; I talked to them on the phone about a week ago about a somewhat less run-of-the-mill requirement than yours, and they seemed more or less a going concern at the time. But I could have been hallucinating I guess, wouldn't be the first time; remind me to watch how much coffee I drink before I go calling people.

Which one do you really need?

Last I knew, the GMPP HT383 crank was made by Cola. Maybe it was just more of me on drugs though.

At least I was told that Cola is no longer in business. I will attempt to call them later this morning.

I need a one-piece rear, found on the newer (1986? - ) small blocks. Apparently, everyone likes to stroke these when replacing the crank -- more power for no more $$$. I'm looking for a stock stroke, 3.480", not 3.750" with a one-piece. Basically, this is a replacement for the stock piece, only in a 4340 forging.

Cola is listing one on that eBay auction right now exactly like you are asking, except it's for 3.500" stroke instead of 3.48"; that would add .010" to the rotating assy height, which would take out that much deck clearance, if you can tolerate the extra cubic inch.

Okay, I just talked to Cola. Alive and well. So I was given misinformation. I guess this happens occasionally. In fact, they had the crank I am looking for. It's been ordered!

I checked out the one on e-bay. Looks good but with my bad experience with a prior Scat crank, I felt I had no choice but to order a new piece from the manufacturer, for documentation if anything. Thanks again guys.

So does this mean you're dumping the 305?

Or you just rebuilding it

Rebuilding. I was lucky. The crank snout snapped at idle. Bent most of the valves and pushrods and messed up the timing gear. That's about it.
