Dipstick!
I TRADED MY BROKEN PLAY TRUCK FOR THIS 83 TRANS AM PACE CAR WITH A 350 IN IT. THIS CAR ORIGINALLY HAD A 305 IN IT. ANYWAY MY DIPSTICK HOLE IS BEHIND THE EXHAUST HEADER WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE DOWN PIPE SO I EITHER NEED A VERY THIN DIPSTICK, NEW EXHAUST OR THE RIGHT ENGINE. I GUESS I COULD PLUG IT AND CHANGE THE OIL OFTEN. BUT THAT IS TOO MUCH WORK. I NEED A SIMPLE SOLUTION. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE....
are you sure that its the oil dipstick? the one on the drivers side behind the exhaust manifold is the transmission dipstick... the oil one is closer to the middle of the engine. the 350 and 305 are almost identical on the exterior, depending on what year 350 it is.

Do what I did... get a junkyard dipstick and tube (or get the chrome Mr. Gasket one) and rent a tubing bender. With the bender, just 'tweak' the tube so that it will fit between the head and manifold so the dipstick can still come out.
Not hard, just takes some time.

another option would be you could get an oil pan that has the dip stick tube through the side of the oil pan instead of going into the block. if you go this way you will need to plug the dip stick hole in the block.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM.

Oh... and the potential in that car is obvious... at least to me.

i have a similar problem, i just replaced my dipsitck because I broke my old one when i was taking my heads off, i orderd the exact one from gm but now whenever i take the dipstick out, oil runs all the way up to the top, wayyy past the full line, so i have no idea how much oil is in there, and i have check both when the car was just run and when it has sat over night.
You probably have a pre-1980 engine block. I use an oil pan adapter block ( Goodson OSD-60 Bolt-on Dipstick Conversion Casting) and a 1980 -1984 oil pan and a left hand dipstick for a 305. It is a PITA with the engine installed, however. Goodson also makes an exhaust flange spacer plate which creates clearance for the right hand dipstick. Its part # is CHC-10 Head
bolt conversion. It was designed to adapt the older heads which
had 6 exhaust bolt holes to 7 holes so the later F-body manifolds
could bolt to the pre-1979 heads. The CHC-10 looks like a 1/4"
thick header flange. See your favorite auto machinist and ask to see his Goodson catalog.
