help with starter connections

there's a wire from the starter to the coil right? if that wire was loose would how would it affect the car? would it cause the car to surge or something? coz i recently experienced something like that. the car kind of fluctuated (so did the tach) and died. turned the key once then nothing happened, turned it again and she started back up...minus the fluctuation. my car doesn't have any electronics on it, just a carb and an old fashioned coil... tnx

I'm not 1000% sure, but every camaro, frbd I saw never used the 'R' terminal for anything. I may be wrong and all but this terminal was used to supply a full 12v to the ignition during cranking when a points triggered (ballast resister limited) ignition is used. I havn't seen this terminal used on any car with electronic ignition.

tnx man,
so am i correct in assuming that the fluctuation was caused by the poor connection of that starter to coil terminal? where else does the coil get its power from?(primary circuit)

The ignition and the starter arn't directly tied together in the 3rd gens. The tack acting funny and then the car dieing sounds like a bad pickup coil or so other electrical problem. The starter not turning over afterward and then working fine a while later seems to indicte you tripped one of the self resetting breakers in the fuse box.

There's something mis-wired in the fuse box or overload of some sort.
