E-TEC 170's vs LT1 heads

Do these heads have comparable flow to LT1 heads. Like wise would the E-tec heads respond well to LT1 designed cam's.

If your talking about Gen II LT1 heads, like 92-97, forget about them, because they will not work on a conventional SBC. Likewise, E-TEC 170s, if I'm not mistaken are Edelbrocks vortec style head, which, won't bolt onto a Gen II stlye block. They were "Normal" SBC built between 92-97, but only in trucks, and vans. LT1 motors have a different style cooling system, and simply will not work, even with major modifications.

The E-tec 170s would probably be about equivalent to a factory LT-1 head in terms of flow/performance, maybe even a bit better. The Edlebrock heads will bolt right onto an earlier SBC block (like used in all 3rd gen Camaors) but it will require a vortec-specific intake manifold with the correct Vortec bolt pattern.

Factory LT-1 heads won't work on anything but an LT-1 block.

Wasn't interested in bolting LT1 heads on. I was just wondering if these budget type heads will outflow LT1's. With a lil more research i found my answers.

LT1
Lift Flow
.100 72/53
.200 129/101
.300 180/136
.400 213/155
.500 214/165
.600 215/171

E-Tec 170
Lift Flow
.100 64/54
.200 130/104
.300 186/140
.400 220/169
.500 232/183
.600 238/190

The E-Tec's are like a Stage2 LT1 port. I wonder what type of numbers a good Stage 2 port on these E-TEC would result in. I would also think LT1 designed cams would work well and post similar numbers as the LT1 guys do. I really hope Holley makes that Vortec compatible HSR so we have good budget LT1/LS1 killing combo w/o breaking any banks.

False statement. LT1 heads can work on early SBC's will some modifications.

Cam, for a little bit of extra money you could get a set of AFR heads that flow a lot better and work with normal SBC intakes (which would actually save you money).

the Etecs are more like a Stage 1 LT1 port. Stage 2 ports flow in the 260-270 range mostly. I have seen a buddy w/ the Stage 1 GTP Lt1 heads with basically the same flow numbers as those e-tecs...

John,

Thanks for clearing that up. In addition to your pages, there are several sites that detail how to modify LT1/4 heads for use on Gen I SBC cases.

Vadar, please post links or PM me those additional webpages that detail how to convert LT1 heads to standard SBC's. I want to see other ways people have come up with for referance. I am thinking of adding converted LT1 heads to my "conversions" to make a great bang for the buck upgrade. It would mean less work on the intake side since i wouldn't ever have to worry about getting the intake bolt holes machined.
