Engine will run eratic at times, other times great...read on...
I have a v6 82' camaro. Engine will run absolutely perfect sometimes, then sometimes it will start to drop rpm's while in park or in gear at idle and then dies. If you are moving there are no problems at all. I have a new carb and plugs on the car, wires should be OK the are about two years old. Could it be some sort of sensor? Anything will help! thanks
How many rpm's is it dropping? When an a/c compressor's clutch engages, the engine's rpm climbs a bit(because of the extra load);when it disengages the rpm's drop down a bit. But as far as an engine dying, I have another question. What is the most stable rpm that the engine is holding, both in park and in gear. The idle will also be a little higher in park than when in gear. Normally, an engine with an automatic trans. should idle about 750rpm's. One with a maual trans. should idle a bit lower, about 600rpm's if I'm not mistaken. When you're idling, is it a rough idle? Does anyone else have any input?
If you have access to a diagnostic tool try to verify what the volts of your battery is at. Do you actually hear the fuel pump powering down then up. I had a similar problem. Believe it or not a penny fell down my cigg. lighter and was causing my car to surge and die.

The idle problem happens while in gear, not in park like I accidentally posted above. It will only happen about every other day the car is driven though, thats what is weird. It jumps from about 400-800rpm on and off then dies, if you put it in park or hit the throttle it will even out. Any ideas?
