cam confusion?????
cam confusion?????
I am looking to rebuild my 305 TPI this fall, and am looking at cams to hook it up with. I was just checking out TPIS's Super Profile L98 cam, and I am confused. The lift on this cam is 415-433, and my stock lift is 413-428, the duration on the L98 is 218-219, and my stock duration is 202-207. The L98 has a 108 centerline, and I believe stock is 112 or 114. This cam doesn't seem that far off from mine-does the little differences and different centerline make that much of a difference? I am trying to figure this cam s*it out so any info is appreciated

That cam is actually very different from your stock L98 cam, for the better. When comparing cams, the lift numbers really mean VERY little. The low lift on the SuperTPI cam is probably a good thing because you won't have to worry about upgrading your valve springs.
Jumping from 202/207 to 218/219 is a pretty big step. Shortening the LSA from 114 to 108 also makes the cam much more aggresive. I'd say it sounds like a good choice. Some might even say it's too much for a 305, but given your 5 speed I'd guess it would work well.
