''performance'' heads on ebay

Actually sounds like a great deal, but I've not familiar with the casting #. Anybody have input? My current heads are from a gm goodwrench crate motor. They're marked ''hencho en mexico'' don't have casting #s on hand. Surely these would be a step up from that.... eh? Heres the link.

IIRC, the 434 heads are fall in the lines of smogger crap. Smaller valves (which are eliminated) and smaller runners.

I would finish the job by dissassembling them and completely hand port them. I would either install screwin studs or pin the stock studs. either way works. Other than that they will work well.

These are early 305 heads.

ive got the same heads, with some work. They are alright, surely not the best, but they still let the 350 scream. no problems revving past 6k (with usable power too). Are they AFR's? No. Are they the best stock casting, no. But they are ok.

Question - it seems that the Intake valve isnt even sitting
inside the bore, looks like its just on top, so you're not getting
maximum efficiency out of those big valves ..

The intake valve is slightly out of the combustion chamber.

Are my observations correct ?

I noticed the same thing about that intake valve. Also, the valves are surrounded by so much metal that is you wanted to unshroud them you would probably be right back at a 64cc chamber if not more.

i think you would be better off spending the money on a set of stock vortecs or scoggin dickey vortecs or junkyard vortecs or the 900 dollar tfs heads from summit. doesn't make any sense to me to spend 400 bucks on a bad compromise. better off sticking with what you have and upgrading when you can afford it.

It is still within the bore. The bore is round while the combustion chamber is often half-circle or wedge shaped.

Here is a pic of my 601s with 1.94" intake valves, which you can see extend well past the combustion chamber but still fall within the bore.

Thats cool, thanx for the info. I have seen those guys on ebay selling what looked like nicely re-done l98 heads for like 400 as well, maybe if i have them work my heads over I can talk em into a deal on some time before and after to see what kind of changes there were.
