What Will This 305 Make??

Im getting a good L69 305 from a friend. (180-190BHP) How much HP might it make with the addition of an Edelbrock Performer intake, Summit Cam 224/224 .465/.465, Edelbrock Performer 600 carb, and a full 3" mandrel bent flowmaster exhaust. Im gonna be replacing my "time-bomb" 355 with this one. I dont need to be told to "just go with a 350"!!! This car aint for racin, its for sellin

I think you'll be limited to a great extent by the heads.

I can port them. I have my old set of ported L98 heads, but I think they will lower the compression too much.

That cam is a little big for that combo, but probably around 210hp.

DITTO ME Leigh and the 3" exhaust is way too large to scavange well. If you have to I think the best moves would be to get the 'listed' performance replacement cam (MILD) for this motor, the Edel intake, stock exhaust with decent muff, and sell it while it's still barely able to keep up with a import.

I can get a smaller cam. But I have to use that exhaust, its already on the car. Flowtech headers 1 5/8 primaries-2 1/2 collector-2 1/2 Y-Pipe- 3" exhaust.

Ok, why would you bother doing anything with this engine then? Doesent make sense to me to build one up just to drop it into somthing that you have plans to sell.

Im still gonna occasionaly drive it until it sells. The only thing I would be buying for it is the cam, which is only $79. I have everything else.

A 350 car has a lot more resale value than a 305 car does if both in equal condition...

The 355 in my car now is knocking, either the block is bad or a rod is bad. The 305 I am getting runs perfect. I can get the 305 and put a better cam in it, for less than half of what it would cost to rebuild the 355. It will also save alot of time, which I dont have.

Was the car supposed to be a 305 car to begin with?

If you change all that stuff, its not an L69 anymore

I don't see anything wrong with that combo, except that I didn't see headers in the list anywhere.

3" inch is not big for the exhaust.

You are going to have nasty bottleneck unless you are using your old headers.

The carb won't make a difference, but I think you got somewhere around 20hp over stock and headers would put you at 35 over stock roughly.

Sorry pre, I should have said 3" is way too big IF it is true duals but not if it's the factory style single. I stand corrected
