Had an ingenious idea (or not) advice please...
The other day I was airing up my tires at the gas station, and when I got out of my car the engine was at about 200*. A few minutes later when I got back in, the temp gauge was reading 260!!! After I recovered from my heart-attack and made sure the car was OK, I figured out why this happened. It seems the problem had two different causes. #1 My primary fan motor had just kicked the bucket. #2 My secondary fan is wired to a toggle switch, and I wasn't in the car to turn it on. I thought I was being so careful with wiring up a toggle switch, yet if I'd been gone for a few more minutes, the sucker woulda blew! I refuse to take any risks with the new engine I'm building. So I got to thinking, if the car is smart enough to shut off in the event that the oil pressure drops below 3 psi (I think it's 3, but it might be 7) why can't it be made to shut off before the engine reaches a critical temperature? I'm sure it can be done, but what's the easiest way to do it? Maybe I could use the old temp switch and relay from the secondary fan, the one I wired to the toggle switch. Instead of the temp switch and relay turning the fan on, they could shut down the fuel pump or ignition. If I do it this way, would I need to worry about the car shutting off when I turn on the AC? I know the fan is set up to come on at 240, which isn't exactly an engine-melting temp, but I don't intend to let my engine get above 240 under any circumstances anyway. Or maybe I could set it up some other way? If anyone else has done this let me know what you did, or if you think this idea is just plain dumb/paranoid.

Well, the way it shuts it off, is by killing the fuel pump...
You could easily use a Fan switch to Do the Same thing, at whatever temp switch you Got.

Why waste your time setting it up like that? Just wire your fans to run all the time...what are the odds of both fans dumping on you at the same time?
