finaly came across a motor

actualy im getting an entire 84 z28 with the ho motor (btw whats the diff between the lg4 and the ho package? is it just the quadrajunk carb?) but the 700r4 is out

so imma part that bitch out to a buddy that needs some body parts
get my windsheild and put the motor in my 86 ta

but no to the question
he claims that the motor smokes a lil bit cause the valve seals are bad

how much of a pain in the *** are they to change?
and about how much would it cost to do it

he is giving me the car for doing some tranny work on his amx javelin
replacing the front and rear seal

cant beat that deal
for a simple nutz and bolts job

oh and its got the mags of a 78 z28 on it that might look nice on the trans am kinda exicited imma finally get my baby runnin again

valve seals are cheap and fairly easy to change.just screw in air compresser line in the spark plug hole, put compressed air in the cylinder and get a valve sping commpresser and change 2 seals at a time.if the engine is out it will be even easier.

Is it an L69 or LG4? , the L69 is the only HO in thirdgens.

The HO is about 50hp better than the LG4. Its got higher compression (9.5 vs 8.5), bigger cam, more aggressive computer/carb tuning, dual snorkel air cleaner (vs dinky little snorkel air cleaner). The HO cars also had a better exhaust system.

so i should take the exhaust off too

its got a nice looking accel distributer and coil n stuff

im not a "mechanic" but ive swapped motors before in other lil cars
what exactly should be the main issues and main pain in the ***

the way im thinking about going about this is just unhook everything take out whatevers holding the tranny in out and driveshaft off then motor mounts and pull that whole thing out in one peice since imma keep the transmission too but its not going to go into the trans am imma keep my 700r4 cause i dont have the money to rebuild the five speed

while its out imma clean it up and tune it up just the basics plugs wires oil etc etc and prolly take a look @ the valve seals

i dunno just warn me about any major conflicts you forsee in the swap so i know what im going up agains when i hit it

If its in good shape, it will be fine with an HO motor in front of it.

I would put a higher stall in it though if you put an HO engine in front of that trans. They like to rev alot more than any of the other 3rdgen engines do.

If its a stock L69, then i'd say around a 2400 stall would be good. I'm no expert on autos though, so if anyone wants to correct me...

I'd say a 2400 would be nice, anythingin the mid 2000's will suffice. What gears are out back?

If you really want help (from me, at least), you'll drop "quadrajunk" from your vocabulary.

While you're at it, since you are in springfield, when you throw away that "Quadrajunk" let me know, I will come and get it. I's only about 40 mi from you.
