Differences between 86 LG4 and 87 TPI Motors????

I have an 86 carbed LG4 motor. I just bought a complete 87 TPI setup with 87 heads.
Are the blocks the same?
Is my 86 cam ok for the TPI setup?
What should I look out for when I do the swap?
I'll also need gaskets, what do I need so I can buy them before the TPI arrives?
Thanks,

Zepher,

There is a reasonable outline of the differences between the years and models, engines, transmissions, and a host of other things in the Tech Articles.

Personally, I'd use both camshafts as paint stir sticks and get a decent one.

Actually Vader, I found a great use for those cams...weapons! Sure, you ever bust somebody upside the head with the fuel pump lobe? Let me tell ya, they don't get back up right away! LOL.

Cam, pistons and heads are all dif. The compression I don't beleive (but could be wrong) won't be the same, because the LG4 pistons have a larger dish. Personally, I say sell that hunk of aluminum crap, build a 350, slap a 700 CFM double pumper on it, and laugh your *** off at the rest of us TPI morons. TPI sucks, go carb.

yeah, TPI sucks so Much, Ill Trade you My Carb and Intake For it.

Zepher, as far as bolting it all Together, It should work Just Fine. was the 87 a L98 or Lb9 ? Either way You should leave the LG4's heads intact, Unless you wanted to Do some port work, and swap the TPI strait onto em.

Now Im having Brainfade, And Cant reember if the LB9 used 416's or not, someoen with a little less history of drug use will ahve to answer that.

But, Yes everything will work.

If your gonna Go in that far, I would recommend swapping out the cam, as Vader pointed out, the Stock cam's In our cars are Quite useful For supporting your Mailbox, making a lamp, Or doing curls, and thats about It.

BTW< is that you in the pic? Tobad you don't live near me, hahaha.
