Couple questions for all you car guys out there. My friend has a 89 firebird, 2.8litre V6, and he says it has a 700r4 tranny in it, did the firebirds/camaros in thirdgens ever come with 700r4 trannys? if so, what years, and what size engines?? And what cars do you think are overall better cars? for looks, performance, etc, the thirdgen camaros, or the thirdgen firebirds, and why? I always like to hear both sides to that question, but anyways, thanks alot guys, please post any info you might have, asap, thanks again

Yes the 700R4 came in the Fbody from 83 or 84 and up (can't remember, I hate the thing). 4 cylander, v6, and v8's recieved them.

I beleive it was renamed the 4L60 in 93 and turned to the 4L60-E in 94 and up, which was because of the electronic shift (hence the E).

 

Yup, what he said. However it is a different 700R4 than came on V8s...the bolt pattern is completely different.

Yes. The TH-700R4 was the only automatic available from 84-92. In 82-83 it could be a TH200-4R or a TH-700R4.

Yeah, and the 700R4 can be made into a really good transmission, there are some that run 9-10sec. in the 1/4, and some of the stock rears are also better than some think.

No, I have been told that the 700 Is a worthless peice of crap, And that I should have Probrably Look into swapping a 2 spd Ford-O-Matic instead.

lol...ford makes the crappiest auto transmission out there, except for maybe chrysler. The only ford tranny thats ever been better than a comparable Chevy is the T5.

In Fact, My moms F150 has a Mazda 5spd In it. Thats an even Bigger peice of crap Than the ford truck box it replaced.

Yes I'm aware If only GM used the ford versions..all us 5 speeders would be happier 5 speed parts for stangs are so much easier and cheaper to come by. I wish I could make some sort of motor plate to adapt one or something

I belive Dodge makes the crappiest trannys. My moms 94 Dodge Ram V6 is on its 3rd transmission. Heck, its on its 3rd water pump, too!

Actually the 2004R was never offered in the camaro or firebirds except the 3.8 buick turbo motored cars.

The early 3 speeds were 200C
