Non distributor car? Need some help with this.....

I took my car into a shop the other day and I told them to adjust the timing because I was told it was off, And he told me that my car was a car that doesn't have a distributor. So how can I get my timing adjusted if my car doesn't have a distributor? My car is a 3.1 liter 1992 Camaro RS.

i believe there is just the initial adjustment, cam to crank, timing is maintained by the computer.

You know, i honestly don't know if your car has a dist or not. I know the FWD 60' V6s didn't but i am sure at least the earlier 2.8 60' V6s in the f-bodies did.
Easy check, open your hood. Does your car have a distributor? lol. Seriously, it'll be a round thing behind your intake plenum with plug wires coming off it. Otherwise the plug wires will come off some boxy lookin gizmos.
If you have a distributor then yes the timing needs to be checked/set. BTW, if you do have a distributor, then your mechanic is a moron and i would suggest you find a new one. Seriously, if he can't get something that simple straight, then how the hell would he diagnose a real problem.

You DO have a distributer, and these guys are freakin idiots. DO NOT EVER go back to those clueless jokers. You CAN adjust the timing on this car. Take it to another shop.
All you would have to do is pop the hood, and they would have see the the distributer but I guess not every "tech" can have an IQ higher than 10. Oh well, just don't go back there again.

See, that's what I thought! I could see it behind the intake manifold! It's what all the plug wires are going to. And if that's not the distributor, what the hell could it be? Thanks a lot everybody. You guys are a big help.

If one of your friends has a timing light than you can use it as you would use any other one. go buy a timing light and read the instructions, buy a chiltions manual and it will tell you everything you need to know. also there should be a sticker on your upper radiator support that will tell you spark plug gap, factory timing, and other things about your car.
