engine swap: electrical woes...

my car will start when the voltage reads low, then if it dies, or you turn the key off, thats all she wrote. If you jump it after a few minutes charging it'll start again, but its not building juice. I'm not completely sure if i wired everything up correctly after the swap, my sig says what i'm running...

grounds:
wired the negative battery cable to the passenger side head
the skinny firewall ground to accessory bolt at the back of the head
tiny wire off the negative is at the fender....

the red wire off the positive cable goes to the starter, along w/ the thick purple and red wires from the harness.

I put the red wire off the alternator on the starter too, is this correct? The black wire w/ the red line goes to the postive cable as before... the two brown wires w/ the white stripes, what do those go to?

the alternator belt could be tighter, but it spins the alternator.

the battery is new, but since i didn't have the alt. plugged in properly for a few days, its on the charger.

the alternator as well as the rest of the system, never moved from a hair below 13 volts w/ the LG4 before. the alternator sat 3 or 4 weeks, waiting to go back on the 350HO.

do you guys see anything fishy w/ my setup?

I'm thinking this is all pointing to a bad alternator, but I'm just a novice when it comes to troubleshooting cars... I'm learning!

thanks,
brandon

There should be a two wire connector that goes to the side of the alternator. If this is not hooked up, the alternator will not work.

it seems one of those go to a fuse or relay box, the other goes to the drivers side harness.

sounds like you have those grounds correct. where do you have the brn wht wires connected. as said these have to be right or the system will not charge.

originally, not knowing what they went too, i had cut them out

i spliced them back together, i made sure to leave enough wire there in case i cut something out i needed, i could wire it back in.

one of the brn wht wires is connected back to the harness, the other seems to go to a fuse box or something right above where the harness enters the cabin, on the drivers side.

hope this makes sense,
brandon

Glad you got her figured out. I wired my starter wrong on my second swap..heck I even had the wires labled. Took me about 2 days to figure out what I had done.

Hey just a quick question since this thread is already open, instead of starting a new one. I did the v6 to V8 swap in my car, and since I have went through 2 batteries. Now dont get me wrong, these are junk Everstarts (neverstart) from WalMart. I have all of the stuff hooked up the same as above. But the two wires that are off of my alternator are red and black. Its one of the old style with the spade connector. My question is, where should each of these go to? I just want to make sure that I have them hooked up right. I may have the colors off a little too, I am color blind (damn these eyes ) If anyone knows, they could tell me by the pin they connect to.
