carb/crate & emissions
Can I pass emissions if I drop in a ZZ4 crate w/ carb? Has anyone done this and passed emissions or know what type of readings to expect? I know I should stick with the FI, but computers scare me, also $$ is an issue. My stock 182,000 mile L03 needs to be put out to pasture, I have enough trouble passing emissions with that motor as it is. I bet a brand new engine, even with a carb, will get better emissions numbers. What do you guys think?

In MA you have very strict emissions regs almost like CA. You need to find out what legally you can modify or if your car is exempt due to age or something.
I think that you have visuals and dyno testing. So you can't change the induction system or engine, IIR.

I have had many cars inspected in MA and never had a visual check (except to make sure the exhaust was intact/functioning). I have never even had the hood popped. Just safety and dyno/emissions, thats it.

I know legally I can't put a carbed engine in my car. It has to be an engine for that specific year or newer. But how can a tech tell what year your engine is? I'm not worried about the swap not being legit. I just want to know if it is posible to pass emissions with this motor.

So you have a 91? They you probably can't go carb. But if they don't have visuals, who cares as long as it passes dyno.

It should with a proper tune. I would go with some Vortecs or Vortec copies ProTopline
They have fastburn chambers and are a more efficient design.
