Numbers on the front of a Engine Block

I have a parts car, it has 305 Heads. Here is what I know, the engine or at least the TPI setup was from a 305 Equiped 1987 Trans AM, they put the TPI in a 1983 Camaro SC.

I have tried to look at the back of the block to see if there is a 305 or 5.0 or a 350 or 5.7 casting, unfortunately the AIR pipe that runs from the right side to the left side of the engine prevents me from actually being able to see anything more than what appears to be a 300 ( I know there was never a 300 SBC )

HOWEVER the front of the engine is very readable with a little sand paper I was able to get the following numbers:

V1014SFL ( What do these didgets indicate )

2HN211943 These are the last didgets of the VIN

2 = Check Didget
H = (Year 1987 )
N = Norwood
2 = Pontiac
11943 = Sequence #

Thanks

John

Why not get the numbers from the pad behind the drivers side head, these will tell you for sure what it is, very quickly.

The problem I have is there is a pipe that is in the way of reading those numbers... I guess I can look again, but I cannot see them.

WOW!, I never thought about the date stamp... And hey, its from my home town FLINT!!!

Off my excitement trip.

Its obviously SFL, I will have to see if I can rip off the A.I.R. tube and see if I can read the Block size behind the head.

Thanks

John

Yup, thats what I found out.

I was able to lean the engine forward, since there was no Transmission the engine was leaning back and hitting the firewall. So I forced it forward, put a piece of wood between the firewall and block, and was able to get a wire brush in there to clean it off well enough to read GM 5.0L

Oh well, I was hoping for a 350...

Thanks for all your help
