Neon gun timing?

I took my car to a shop yesterday to change the gaskets for an oil leak problem. After the change was done the mechanic said I'll adjust your timing now and he took out a neon gun fired it to the belt for a few seconds. Lowest octane gas available here is 95 octanes. So he said he adjusted my engine for 95 octanes gas and said it should give me about 4-5horses. I felt some power but it might be just my mind.

My question is anyone know about this neon gun timing? Would I really get extra 5hps just by adjusting for 95 octanes?

Thanks

Its actually a normal timing light with an Xenon bulb. Its a brighter bulb nothing extra special about it. With 95 octane as the lowest grade fuel you could run quite a bit of advance without detonation problems especially in a stock engine. So if the timing was advanced you would feel a bit more power.

One thing to remember is that octane rating methods are not universal. In the U.S., octane ratings displayed on the pump must be the minimum octane derived by the average of the research and road octane methods. That number is typically lower than the research octane rating alone, and frequently the fuel in the tanks is actually higher octane than the pump label indicates.

It's very very expensive here. About 1.5 dollars per liter. I think a gallon is about 3 liters which makes it about 4.5 dollars per gallon.
And the most annoying thing about the rates here is 1.2 dollars of the 1.5 dollars is tax only. So without tax it's .3 dollars here for a liter.

And you can buy 12 litres of oil for a dollar in arabia, which is about 4 gallons of oil for a dollar. I heard oil is cheaper than water there.

Although the rate is different, the situation is similar in the U.S. Much of the cost of gasoline is consumed in a bevy of federal and state taxes, for excise, fuel charge, environmental, road use/hazardous cargo, state energy taxes, and sales taxes. What's worse is that some of those taxes are percentage based, so as the price increases, the tax increases. I haven't heard of many state governments easing the sales and energy taxes since the base price has increased. They just sit back with their palms out, grinning quietly.

A bit late, but......:

1 US gallon is 4,4 litre (US dry metod. Used for measuring gasoline?)

...or...:

! US gallon is 3,785 liter (US liquid metod)

Anyway, any of those 2 examples makes Turkey gasprices compare to US even worse.....almost as here in Norways...!
