CAI Setup
Ok my current CAI consists of a a gay Filter and what not.
I am wantingf to build my own Custom CAI right now.
Ok I want a K&N filter capable of flowing 1000CFM(that is if its needed) and maybe a 3-3.5" inlet.
What would be a good part number for such a filter.
Also, Should i get a different elbow, or ust attach the metal to the current elbow i got?

The stock intake on an 86 like yours is a nightmare- like it was intentially built to be as restrictive and complicated as possible.
I have on a couple of occasions ripped it all out and built it back up using an 88-up 90* Trans Am TPI elbow from the TB to the MAF, which is a much cleaner shot than the stock "boxes, accordians and elbows" setup. I recall I had to slightly re-route the MAF wiring to make it reach up to it's new location (which will be higher up and slightly closer to the center of the car). Beyond that, putting something on the front of the MAF to reach over to wherever you want to put the filer (usually near the pass. side fender behind the headlights) can be as simple as some cheap air duct hose all the way up to a custom-bent metal pipe with rubber flanges on either end.
BTW- SLP make a similar kit with everything you need for a Firebire/Trans Am CAI that is, in my opinion, a well thought out system, but a bit pricey. You might be able to find one used on Ebay, however.

How do you know that your filter is gay? Do you occasionally catch it in perverse acts under your hood? Is it perhaps fondling your oil filter when no one is looking? Be careful, it may even be violating your radiators filler neck when the hood is down.

I have a 4" x 9" K&N cone filter at the end of some 3" and 3.5" PVC tubing and rubber hose. I think it looks very nice actually

I used a set-up from a MAF TPI Camaro. Then I gutted the whole thing and replaced the MAF sensor with a peice of PVC pipe and painted it black.
There was an article on oiled air filters (K and N) that you might want to read before buying a $40 air filter.

nah its finished now. I went and got some cool stuff and remade the damn thing.
But i got one question while i was working i took out eh A.I.R. Compressor, and the A/C Compressor. All in the long i started up to notice this very weird vibration while inside the car.
Is it because i only have one of the power steering brackets connected?
shane
