Hey all,

It's been a while since I've posted on here. I used to be into 3rd Gen's alot but then I ended up converting to the darkside and built a 9 second turbo stang that I compete in the NMRA with.
Anyways, I just bought an 89 IROC 350 from a police auction and I had it towed home. It won't start. The car has been sitting for over a year. I put a fresh battery in it and nothing electrical will work. The only things that will work are the horn, headlights, dome light, and gauges. I turn the key and I don't get anything at all: doesn't even try turning over, no power windows/locks/trunk.
The battery I installed is good, it works in my other car. So my question is: what do I do? It's been so long since I've worked on a thirdgen that I'm lost!

Alternator? Starter?
Sounds like the alternator to me.
Can u jump it to start?
What is you voltage?

 

Check all the connetions, mainly the ones from the battery to the alternator and the ones to the starter. You can start a car without an alternator, it just might not stay running too long.

Also, check the fusable links. They cause funktified problems sometimes.

Hmmm...

The thing that is confusing me is that the power accessories aren't working (windows, locks, trunk). I can't figure it out, lol.

 

Any ideas?

 

Check fuses, especially the ecm fuse

 

CTSY fuse and probably another one or two. I'd also check the ground on the block and the wiring to the dist. Some PDs, on impound vehicles over a week, disable the coil or distributor.
