Lets hear your Head/Cam/Intake/Carb combo's..

I am going to buy a 1982 Camaro and am going to add heads, cam and intake along with a new carb. I was leaning toward the Holley Systemax package that advertises 425hp. I am sure that is a liberal number. But it seems the cheapest way to go.

I was just curious if anyone could share their combo's and if they have any strip or dyno numbers to compare.

Thanks.

10:1 compression is insanly high? The heads flow more CFM than LS1 heads. The cam is more radical than a LS1 and it has a carb, which will usually make more HP than EFI. Obviously the fuel economy will be better on the LS1.

I run a stock LT1 shortblock with:
- LT4 heads
- GM LT4 dual plane intake
- GM LT4 HOT cam kit
- Demon Mech Secondary 750CFM Speed Demon

The car has a 3500 stall lockup converter, and 4.10 gears. It has run as quick as 12.30, and usually runs 12.35-12.45. It needs a taller gear, as the current setup forces me to shift into overdrive just before the end of the 1/4.

I drive it to work everyday, until I get my other car fixed...It gets about 20mpg on the interstate with the converter locked, but gets much, much less around town!

Well, if you had given me a half way intelligent answer then I would have. But seeing your username and your car are off about 180*, you really don't have anything useful to add, do you?

I am not going to use a LT1, so that is out as are the heads.

The engine that is in the car is a 350 and unknown heads, intake and carb. I won't be able to see it until sunday. The holley package is looking better and better.

Make a "fake" ZZ430! Use a nice 350cid shortblock, L31 Vortec heads with upgraded springs and screw-in studs, then the Hot Cam with 1.5 or 1.6 SA roller rockers (get Hot Cam Kit?), RPM intake or RPM AIR GAP, 750 cfm carb, nice headers. The ZZS430 got 430 hp (duh) with this stuff and Fast Burn heads and I am told that you can get 380-390hp with out-of the box Vortecs warmed over as I stated and the rest of the stuff. That's not bad and is CHEAP! Oh, make sure your HEI curve is right, too and tune the carb impeccably!

you can also go the homebuilt fastburn 383 route. Its a 383 with GM-FB heads. Add a hotlt4 cam and you should be up near 420-430 hp.

I would go not go with the entire systemMAX kit. Just the heads. The cam is only so-so.

Carb=750 DF DP manual secondaries
Cam=Comp Cams 507/292/242 @ .050
Heads=Dart Sportsman
Intake=Performer RPM

I bought the engine complete and probably would have went with AFR heads. The engine flywheel dyno'ed at 400hp and has run a best of 12.69 @ 111. I don't think the systemax looks too bad, I'm just not a big fan of edelbrock heads.

i did not read too close before, if your going to stick with 350, you really need to try to find out a couple of things
<UL>[*]what your overall weight is (and what it will eventually be)[*]what gear you going to have in it.[/list]I have seen 350s with AFRs and a comp Hydroller 304 (600 lift -244 at 050), that would really scream. But it will need at least a 410 gear and about 3300lbs.
