Well, the main benefit of a two piece timing chain cover is so that you don't have to pull the oil pan down to go a timing chain swap, or to advance/retard you cam timing.

We have played with a bunch of the 2 pc covers. Most are junk. The only 1 worth a damn is the comp cams 2 pc cover. I think I paid about $225 but worth every penny.

OK Great
This is what i wanted to know...I too was looking at the Comp one
i also noted it was the highest priced one that i have found, How was the install? any leaks? Quality? I do not mind paying good $$ for a product , as long as it is worth the money. Any pics would be Great also do you happen to recall the Comp part #? The only one on Comps site is for a 3 piece 5 Hundred and change cover ...real nice But not for me Thanks, GTA...........

I am the fussiest guy alive regarding quality. There was only 1 problem with the 2 pc comp cover. The cover deflects slightly when used with a roller cam with button.I solved this problem by milling down slightly the top 2 bolt heads on the rear of the water pump. They work as stops against the cover to now minimize deflection which results in end play. Long story short= I am **** when assembling a motor. This cover is 99% perfect and worth every penny in my opinion!

Also, I do not have pics. Other than forums and **** I am usless with a computer. I do not have the part number handy but can get it. Box is packed up in garage. No leaks whatsoever. cnc machined and fits perfect!

I have a balancer with the timing marks engraved. I bought a 2 dollar chrome scale, put motor at tdc on #1 and cut a point with a pair of tin snips to resemble a giant arrow. Sounds chezzy but looks ok.

ME Leigh: You can use the two piece with any cam as far as I know, but I think that on some cams you have to use that thrust plate/roller button to keep the roller cam from walking forward in the cam bore. Usually only happens under load though. If you aren't running a timing set that has straight up/retarded/advanced crank gear settings, and you won't be changing it or don't plan on replacing the timing chain then I wouldn't waste the money. I'm not saying it is a waste of money, but you could get away with a 1 piece unit. Or you could do something really trick and ditch the timing chain set altogether and run a gear drive. Sounds like a supercharger making boost. Only bad thing is that usually won't work with a computer controlled car with a knock sensor cause the knock sensor picks up the noise and retards the timing

The comp cams 2 pc cover is part number 210. If the budget allows I would recommend it. The main reason I bought it was to allow cam timing tweaks after it was already installed in the car. Not dropping the oil pan is a plus and imho the extra money spent justifies itself if you pull the pan down(while in the car) 1 time. Looks cool as well!
